Why using Diesel Engine?
Thanks to invention of Diesel Engine by Rudolf Diesel, now it has been proved that this engine is efficient and cost-effective. In comparison with petroleum, Diesel (Gas Oil) is more cheaper but has higher Energy density, it means that with the equal amount of them, Diesel made much more energy. So diesel engine travels extra distance and it would be the best choice for Industrial and Heavy Machinery. Diesel is heavier than petroleum and has higher boiling point than water. In addition, because the diesel generators have higher productivity and cost-effectiveness, eventually more people prefer to try them.
How Diesel Engines work?
In theory, diesel engines and gasoline engines are quite similar but have a major difference. The distinction is in method of ignition. Gasoline engine use spark ignition while the diesel engine compress the air and then ignited. The resulting temperature in diesel engine is more higher and at this temperature, fuel burns better.
The diesel engine uses a four-stroke combustion cycle just like a gasoline engine. The four strokes are:
  • Intake stroke -- The intake valve opens up, letting in air and moving the piston down.
  • Compression stroke -- The piston moves back up and compresses the air.
  • Combustion stroke -- As the piston reaches the top, fuel is injected at just the right moment and ignited, forcing the piston back down.
  • Exhaust stroke -- The piston moves back to the top, pushing out the exhaust created from the combustion out of the exhaust valve.
  • In Cold weathers, the necessary heat obtained from the Heater. Depending on the performance, Diesel engines separated into two groups.
  • Engine which cooled down with Air
  • Engine which cooled down with the mixture of water and deicer
Which the second one is highly recommended for diesel generators. Advantages of using Diesel Engine:
According to these reasons, diesel generator is more efficient than petroleum engines. - The disadvantages in old diesel generators (like maintenance charge and loud noise) are now overcome in modern engines and these new engines are serene and almost maintenance free. It should be considered that diesel generators are also have more power and less maintenance fee than Gas Engines.
- They are more reliable and less depreciation
- Because of injection system and having no Ignition Wire or Sparkle Plug, maintenance fee highly decreased.
- Fuel cost for is about 30% to 50% less than other types of engine
Where can we use Diesel Engine?
Diesel engine is usually used as mechanical engine with combination of Power Generator and formed the Diesel Generator. Besides using in this way, they also used in Locomotives, Building and construction tools, vehicles and many other industrial usages.
This expansion in industrial world is so obvious which we could see it every day around us. From industrial diesel engine, agriculture, construction, marine, mining, health care and hospitals, rangeland and forestry, telecommunications to its most important function as diesel engine in Diesel Generator in urgent power supply.
Diesel generators are available in different power, size and specifications. They could be used both as Continuous Prime Power or Backup/Standby Power.
