1. What is Diesel generator?
A diesel generator is the combination of a diesel engine with an electric generator (often an alternator) to generator electrical energy in industrial scale. The engine part changes the fuel into rotational energy by internal ignition which transferred to generator part by coupling; and at the end this energy transformed into electrical power.
2. Where do we use Diesel Generator?
Diesel generator is used in places which having no connection to the power grid or the cost of this matter is not affordable, or as emergency power-supply if the grid fails. For instance these situations needed Diesel Generator as an alternative electric source:
- Residential Buildings with more than 4 floors (without lobby) which has elevator
- Public Buildings which Power Cutoff causes severe damage or serious danger to the resident or irreparable damage to property.
- Hospitals and Health Care Centers
- Industrial Cold Storages
- Industrial Centers
3. Classification of Diesel Generators
Classifications of Diesel Generators are based on their fuel consumption and consist of 3 categories:
a. Diesel Generator Sets
b. Gas Generator Sets
c. Dual Fuel Generator Sets
4. What is the Electrical Power Unit for Diesel Generator?
In general, kVA (Kilo Volt Ampere) is used for showing the output power of a Generator but in some cases, kW (Kilo Watt) is also used for this matter.
5. What is the relation between kVA and kW
kW = kVA * 0.8 Ampere = kVA * 1.5
6. How we control and monitor performance of Diesel Generator?
We can control and monitor Diesel Generator performance via Control Panel. There is 2 typed of control panel. A Manual one which has Analogue gadgets to set or check parameters or the Digital control panel which has Digital panel and we could adjust Diesel Generator parameters via this panel.
7. Which cooling system is used in Diesel or Motor (GAS) Generators?
The cooling system which is used in Diesel or Motor Generators has two types. Cooling with water and cooling with air.
8. What is Coupling?
Coupling means connecting two devices which one of them is Actuator and another is Ambulatory. In this case, the actuator part is Mechanical Engine (Diesel) and the ambulatory part is Alternator (Generator). The process of connecting the Diesel Mechanical Engine to the Generator and providing Accessories to activate this Device (Diesel Generator) is called Coupling.
